Polio a national issue: CS Balochistan

QUETTA: Chief Secretary Balochistan, Mathar Niaz Rana has termed the poliovirus as a national issue. He expressed these views while speaking to a delegation of the polio oversight board. The delegation discussed refusals, missing children, and the polio campaign in Balochistan.
“Government committed to eradicating the crippling virus”, Mr. Rana said. He stated that effective steps were adopted to make the polio campaign a success and eradicate the virus from the province and country. The Balochistan government has decided to increase the number of lady health workers to make sure provision of polio drops to all the children.
EPI program plays a crucial role in the vaccination of children
Mr. Rana mentioned that the extended program for immunization (EPI) was also making hectic efforts to vaccinate children across the province. He urged political leaders, religious scholars, and people belonging to all walks of life to play their due role in the eradication of the virus.
The Director of the global polio delegation appreciated the efforts of the lady health workers, volunteers, the government of Balochistan, and all the people battling against the virus despite all odds.
Balochistan reports one polio case in 2021
In 2021, Balochistan has reported one polio case throughout the country. The province’s Killa Abdullah district has reported the polio case. Killa Abdullah, Quetta, Chaman, and Pishin are considered to be the most vulnerable districts when it comes to poliovirus. The health department and the EOC have taken effective steps to eradicate the virus and address the issue of poliovirus refusal cases. Over 12,000 parents had refused to provide polio drops to their children in Quetta-block.
Secretary Primary and Secondary Health, Aziz Ahmed Jamali, Chief of Emergency Operation Cell, Hameedullah Nasar, Director-General Health Balochistan, Dr. Ali Nasir Bugti, and other high ups were also present on the occasion.
