Pak-Afghan border reopened after two weeks on Friday. Transit activities resumed between Pakistan and Afghanistan as hundreds of trucks cross the border.

Afghan Taliban had closed the border between the two countries two weeks back. Taliban had asked the Pakistan government to enhance the opening hours at the border. “We have strictly directed the border administration to ensure implementation of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)”, Jumadad Mandokhail, the Deputy Commissioner Chaman said.

Thousands of pedestrians cross the border

Thousands of pedestrians also crossed the border linking Pakistan with neighboring Afghanistan. Women, children, aged people, and patients were waiting two weeks for the reopening of the border. “This is a matter of pleasure for us”, Muhammad Khan, an Afghan refugee entering Pakistan told Quetta Voice. He said scores of Afghans were trying to enter Pakistan to seek shelter because of fierce fighting between Afghan forces and the Taliban in various parts of the impoverished country.

“The border would remain open from 8 am to 4 pm”, Mr. Mandokhail said.

Pakistan has taken strict security measures at the border

Pakistan had taken strict security arrangements at the border to maintain the law and order situation at the border. Frontier Corps (FC) personnel deployed at the border to ensure peace.

Scores of Afghans are fleeing their war-ravaged country in the aftermath of a fierce battle between the Afghan forces and Taliban. The battle has displaced thousands of Afghans.
