CTD arrests target killer in Mastung

Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Tuesday arrested a target killer in Balochistan’s district Mastung. Spokesman CTD said the accused was involved in the targeted killing of 2 policemen in Mastung on May 10th, 2021.

An intelligence-based operation was conducted in Mastung and the target killer Abdul Hayee was arrested. CTD also recovered a 9 mm pistol, 2 hand grenades from the possession of the target killer.

A first information report (FIR) was lodged against the target killer in CTD Police Station in Quetta. An investigation team was formed to interrogate the culprit, the Spokesman said. CTD also launched an investigation into the targeted killings in Mastung and more arrests are expected.

The Islamic State (IS) had claimed the responsibility for the attack against police in Mastung Balochistan.

Mastung is one of the sensitive districts of Balochistan. Militants in the past have repeatedly attacked security forces, police in the area. However, the Sunni-militant group, the outlawed Lashkar e Jhangvi has also carried out attacks against minority ethnic Shia Hazara in the district.

On July 13, 2013, a deadly suicide bombing claimed over 150 lives including Mir Siraj Raisani in the Darengarh area of Mastung district. Siraj Raisani, a central leader of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) was addressing a public meeting in the area when a powerful blast went off.
