Durban Chah, Balochistan, October 20, 2023: The Reko Diq Mining Company (RDMC) has officially opened a primary school in the village of Durban Chah, located in the Chagai district of Balochistan. This marks the third primary school inaugurated by RDMC this year, underscoring the company’s commitment to enhancing social development initiatives within the region.
Project initiated in collaboration with local community
Consistent with RDMC’s established approach to community development, this project was initiated in collaboration with the local Community Development Committee (CDC), which was formally established earlier this year. The Par-e-Koh CDC, comprising members representing nearby villages such as Humai, Mashki Chah, Nok Chah, and Durban Chah, recommended the reopening of the Durban Chah primary school to RDMC. The CDC plays a pivotal role in fostering consensus among diverse community stakeholders and recommends need-based projects to RDMC, thus ensuring local ownership and addressing community-specific requirements.
RDMC to be responsible for maintenance of school
The Durban Chah village school is a government-sanctioned structure, and RDMC will be responsible for its maintenance. The company has also provided the necessary staff, including teachers recruited from the surrounding areas, to ensure the school’s operational functionality. Following the completion of construction and other infrastructure work by RDMC, the school’s initial enrollment of 64 students has increased to 107, with 51 female and 56 male students. Similar to the Humai and Mashki Chah primary schools, RDMC oversaw the construction of the Durban Chah primary school, which will be managed by a third party under the supervision of RDMC’s management.
