Murderer of journalist Anwar Khetran convicted to life imprisonment

A court in Balochistan’s Barkhan district convicted the murderer of journalist Anwar Jan Khetran to life imprisonment on Wednesday morning. The Additional Session Judge, Tasawur Naveed announced the judgment. The court also fined the accused Rs. 2 lakh.

Senior journalist Anwar Jan Khetran was killed in a firing incident on July 23rd, 2020 in the Nahar Kot area of Barkhan district. The attackers had fled from the spot. However, law enforcement agencies apprehended the accused identified as Adam Khan.

Two accused identified as Adam Khan and Nadar Khan were nominated in the First Information Report (FIR) for the murder of the journalist. Shabir Ahmed Khetran Advocate was the counsel for the heirs of the slain journalist.

Another accused Nadar Khan who was also nominated for the murder of the journalist is still at large. The murder of the journalist was widely condemned on social and formal media. The journalists’ organizations across the country had expressed serious concern over the murder of journalist and demanded of the government to arrest the culprits behind the attack.
