Chamalang: Landslide kills another coal miner

Hussain Zarkoon:

DUKKI: Landsliding has killed another coal miner in Balochistan’s Chamalang area on Sunday. Levies sources said the miner was working deep inside the coal mine when hit by a landslide.

The minor breathed his last on the spot. Rescue workers and fellow miners reached the coal mine and retrieved the dead body, Levies said. The miner identified as Rafiullah, a resident of neighboring Afghanistan.

Levies shifted the dead body to district headquarters hospital Dukki. The administration handed over the dead body to the heirs.

Chamlang has rich coal reservoirs and located 96kms north of Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan. On a daily basis, hundreds of trucks loaded with coal move from the rugged mountains of Chamalang to various parts of the country in general and Punjab province in particular.

Hazardous working conditions inside coal mines of Balochistan

In Balochistan, hazardous working conditions inside coal mines have claimed scores of precious human lives. The coal companies appeared to be least bothered about the plight of coal miners. Incidents of methane gas blasts and other incidents are on a constant rise in Mach, Bolan, Harnai, Dukki, Sorange, Quetta, and other parts of Balochistan.

Despite repeated attempts, the Quetta Voice was not able to speak to the officials of the mines and minerals department Balochistan.
