Polio virus confirmed in a minor girl in Balochistan’s Killa Abdullah
A 17 month old minor girl was tested positive for the crippling virus
A 17-month-old minor girl was tested positive for the crippling virus in Balochistan’s Killa Abdullah district on Friday. The girl belongs to union council Sirki Taleri, Chaman city, health sources told the daily Quetta Voice.
Samples of the girl were collected few days back and the laboratory report confirmed that the girl has contracted the virus. The minor girl belongs to an extremely poor family, health sources mentioned.
With the confirmation of a fresh case of poliovirus, cases in Balochistan have reached 8 in the province. However, countrywide cases have jumped to 50 during the current year.
Despite three decades of anti-polio campaigns, the crippling virus is yet to be eradicated. Most of the cases have been reported from Killa Abdullah, Pishin, Quetta and other parts of Balochistan. The reason behind the increasing cases is said to be refusal on the part of parents.
