QUETTA: Police used baton charges and tear gas to disperse protesters in Quetta’s Red Zone. Men and women were attempting to demonstrate for the recovery of Zaheer Baloch when baton-wielding policemen intervened. Mah Rang Baloch, leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee, criticized the government’s actions, calling it a “violation of fundamental human rights.”

In response, Shahid Rind, the spokesperson for the Balochistan government, refuted the protesters’ claims. He stated that Section 144 was in effect in the area, which houses important judiciary and government offices. “The government avoided using force against the protesters,” Rind said in a video message.

Following the clash, protesters relocated their demonstration to Sariab Road, where they had already been protesting for Zaheer Baloch’s recovery. Security measures were intensified in and around the Red Zone in the aftermath of the incident.

The protesters accused the police of subjecting protesters to torture and use of force. The charge was denied by the police and the spokesman government of Balochistan.
