QUETTA: Caretaker Information Minister Jan Achakzai disclosed 250,000 cases of nationality theft in the province during a press conference at the Quetta Press Club. He emphasized ongoing investigations by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), expressing intent to have NADRA officials brief the press on the matter.

Achakzai clarified that the identity theft investigation does not target any specific ethnic group but encompasses all involved. He commended the caretaker prime minister, Anwar ul Haq Kakar, and Chief of Army Staff, General Syed Asim Munir, for the initiative, that led to the departure of over 400,000 Afghan illegal immigrants from Pakistan. The total number of illegal immigrants in Pakistan was cited at over 1.7 million.

Highlighting a significant crackdown against illegal immigrants, Achakzai praised law enforcement agencies for swiftly repatriating a large number of individuals within a short period. He reiterated the impartial nature of the crackdown, emphasizing that no specific ethnic group had been targeted.

Achakzai urged the Afghan government to hand over terrorists like Hafiz Gul Bahadur to Pakistan and stressed that Pakistan has consistently raised this issue with the Taliban government. He also encouraged the Afghan government to take steps for international recognition, asserting its mandate to frame policies.
