QUETTA: A powerful blast left four people dead and over two dozen injured in the Belili area of the provincial capital. Azfar Maisar, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Police said a police truck carrying policemen was targeted in the attack.
Four people including one policeman, and a woman were killed in the attack, the DIG police informed. Initial police investigation suggests, it was a suicide attack, a senior security officer said. He requested anonymity since he was not authorized to speak to the media.
The suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden vehicle into the police truck. As a result of this, there was a huge blast, which left four people dead and over two dozen injured. The police truck was also destroyed in the attack.
A woman and her son also killed in the attack
One policeman inside the truck was dead on the spot whereas a woman and her son were killed in their vehicle when the explosive-laden vehicle rammed into the truck. The woman and her son were going in their vehicle from Quetta, the DIG Police mentioned.
The injured were rushed to civil hospital Quetta and the combined military hospital for medical treatment. An emergency was imposed in the hospital to provide medical treatment to injured of the blast.
Police and frontier corps personnel reached the spot as an investigation into the incident went underway. The investigators collected evidence from the spot.
CM Bizenjo strongly condemns the attack
Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Quddus Bizenjo strongly condemned the blast and directed the administration to submit a report about the blast. In a statement issued after the blast, Mr. Bizenjo said the perpetrators of the blast would be brought to justice.
An important meeting was held at the Balochistan Home Ministry. Senior officials participated in the meeting. The meeting decided to beef up security in and around Quetta in the aftermath of attack.
