Balochistan faces loss of Rs 300 bs due to current floods

Balochistan has faced a financial loss of around Rs: 300 billion due to current torrential rains and flash floods, the General Secretary of Zamindar Action Committee (ZAC) Abdul Rehman Bazai told Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Abdul Qudous Bizenjo. The current flash floods had many adverse impacts on the Balochistan province.

The CM of Balochistan met with the representatives of the ZAC regarding the damages caused by the floods to the agriculture sector in Balochistan. They discussed the situation created by floods and the issues that the farmers are faced with.

The General Secretary of the ZAC briefed Mr. Bizenjo about the damages caused by the floods. He told that as compared to other sectors, the agriculture sector is affected the most. Mr. Bazai told that the floods damaged the canal system, tube wells, and solar systems.

The Action Committee expressed concerns over the import of commodities from the neighboring countries. They said that the local farmers are affected by the import of vegetables and fruits as their products are sold at low prices in the market.

The committee demanded to waive off the electricity bills of the farmers in the affected districts. 500 hours of dozer and 250 hours of tractors for land leveling should be provided to each farmer.

Committee demanded to provide subsidies to the landowners on agricultural supplies and fertilizers at the provincial level, including the waiver of agricultural loans for the province, and to ensure the representation of the landowners in the survey to compensate for the losses.

“Agriculture sector is the backbone of our country’s economy and the employment of most of the people is also related to this sector”, the CM said.

The CM of Balochistan praised the Prime Minister of Pakistan and said that during the recent floods, the PM visited the affected districts of Balochistan several times and personally reviewed the relief and rehabilitation works, which is a good gesture from the federal government.
