Political parties demand restoration of Musakhail MPA seat

QUETTA: All political parties in Musakhail have demanded of the Election Commission of Pakistan to restore the member provincial assembly seat of the district. Their demand has come after the ECP proposed the inclusion of the Musakhail district in the Barkhan recently.

“ECP must hear our concerns”, Sardar Babar Musakhail, the acting Speaker Balochistan Assembly told a crowded press conference on Friday evening at the Balochistan Assembly Secretariat. Former provincial minister, Maulana Ghulam Sarwar and other political leaders from the Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf (PTI) and other political parties were also present on the occasion. The political leaders informed that they have already lodged a complaint with the Chief Election Commissioner in this regard.

Political parties have also staged protest demonstrations in Musakhail and outside the ECP’s office in Quetta to mount pressure on the commission to restore the old status of the district’s constituency.

As per the 2017 statistics, the population of district Barkhan is 1,71,0000, and district Musakhail’s 168000. The political parties complained that the ECP had adopted a step-motherly treatment with Musakhail when it comes to the formation of new constituencies in the province.

“We will not step back from our demand”, Maulana Ghulam Sarwar Musakhail who is also the provincial office-bearer of Jamiat ul Ulema e Islam (JUI) said. He warned that political parties would intensify their protests if the government and ECP failed to address their grievances.
