QUETTA: Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Quddus Bizenjo has said that the provincial government was ready to hold local bodies elections as per schedule in the province. In a policy statement, he said all institutions have been entrusted with the task of holding local bodies elections in Balochistan. Balochistan is set to hold LBs elections on May 29th as per the schedule announced by the election commission of Pakistan (ECP).
“Fair and transparent elections would be ensured throughout the province”, Mr. Bizenjo stated. He however mentioned that the provincial government had desired to delay the holding of the local bodies’ elections because of some financial issues and the fast-approaching budget.
The provincial government would provide all possible resources for holding the local bodies’ elections in the province, the CM said. He reiterated that local bodies’ elections guarantee the empowerment of the masses at grassroots level.
He however made it clear that the local bodies’ elections would be held on political parties basis. CM’s statement has come two days after the Balochistan High Court (BHC) dismissed a petition seeking a delay in the LBs in the province.
The provincial government had also written a letter to the election commission of Pakistan to delay the elections because of political, administrative, and financial issues. Balochistan has however announced to hold elections in all districts except for Quetta and Lasbella because of some delimitations issues.
