Three notifications regarding threat alerts in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province have been issued within the last 24 hours. All private and pubic educational institutions remained closed in the city after the threat alert. The University of Balochistan, Balochistan University of Information Technology Engineer and Management Sciences (BUITEMS), and Sardar Bhadur Khan (SBK) Women University have also issued separate notifications regarding two days closure.
“Threat exists”, an official of the Balochistan Home and Tribal Affairs Department told Quetta Voice. He preferred not to be named because of the sensitivity of the matter.
Balochistan Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BBISE) has postponed the matric examinations for two days i.e. March 17 and 18, Saadia Farooqi, the Chairman of the board announced. She preferred not to mention the next date for the matriculation papers.
Home Department Balochistan issues a threat alert letterÂ
Threat letters from the home and tribal affairs department of Balochistan and other security agencies have caused panic in Quetta, which has already faced the worst type of terrorist attacks in the past.
As per the home department’s notification, all commissioners, deputy commissioners, and district police officers across Balochistan have been directed to beef up security arrangements in the wake of fresh threats. This daily obtained the copy of the home department’s notification.
YDA cancels its planned protest rally
Young Doctors Association (YDA) Balochistan also announced to cancel its planned protest rally in the red zone of Quetta owing to looming security threats. “YDA will not take out a protest rally”, Dr. Rahim Khan Babar, the Information Secretary of the young doctors said in a statement.
Roads and streets of Quetta were also giving a deserted look in the aftermath of threat alerts. Most of the people preferred to be at homes and offices because of threats. However, attendance in government offices was also low after the issuance of security threats.
