Quetta police assault women, 2 police officials suspended

Quetta police male officers assaulted women in the city’s Toghi Road area on Monday. The video of the policemen assaulting women went viral on social media. The video prompted Chief Minister Balochistan to take notice of the incident and ordered an inquiry.

“We have suspended two police officials”, Syed Fida Hassan Shah, the Deputy Inspector General of Police Quetta said. He said legal proceedings against the responsible officials were initiated. The suspended officers include Sub-Inspector Abdul Naveed and Gunman Ghulam Raza. Parents had submitted a report at the Quaid e Abad Police Station about the missing of three girls.

Parents spotted their daughters on Toghi Road Quetta

On Monday evening, the parents spotted their daughters on the Toghi road area of Quetta, the DIG Police mentioned. Police reached the spot at the request of the parents to hand over their daughters. “Yes, there had to be ladies personnel and the officers on duty demonstrated negligence”, the DIG stated.

A video widely shared on social media

In the video widely shared on social media networks show, a police officer is assaulting a female and trying to push her towards the parked police vehicle. “This is not acceptable and the incident would be properly probed”, Chief Minister Mir Quddus Bizenjo said after taking the notice of the incident. Mr. Bizenjo has also directed the police chief to probe into the incident and bring the responsible officers to book.

People on social media condemn the incident

People on social media strongly condemned the incident and called for action against the responsible officers. Most of the people questioned that there had to be lady police officers while arresting the women if they were wanted in any case. Police formed an inquiry team comprising senior officers to probe into the incident.
