Luxury vehicles: Finance department approves procurement: Jam hits back

Syed Ali Shah :

QUETTA: Former Chief Minister Balochistan, Jam Kamal Khan has clarified that it was the finance department, which has the mandate of procurement, sanctioning of posts rather than the CM. The Former CM’s interview with this daily has come a day after the Balochistan Planning and Development (P&D) Minister, Zahoor Buledi revealed the proposed purchase of Rs.4bs luxury vehicles.

“Budget, posts, procurement, and SNEs is the job of finance”, the former CM said. He noted that the former finance minister Zahoor Buledi presented budgets and praised them in his speeches. “People can judge that Zahoor was right at that time or today”, Jam Kamal pointed out.

He mentioned that Balochistan is not a shop or a company rather there are 35 to 40 departments that prepare their plans as per their requirements.

“60 percent population of Balochistan comprises of youth”

Regarding allocation of Rs.1.5 bs for sports stadiums in Awaran, Washuk, the former CM said districts have so many requirements from clean drinking water to sports stadiums. Balochistan’s 60 percent population comprises of youth, he informed. “Contrary to this, projects worth Rs. 2bs to 3bs disappear after one rainfall”, he said.

As far as rationalization is concerned, our government started this rationalization in 2018. Jam Kamal Khan said no government has done this exercise of rationalization what his government had done during the last three years about the PSDP.

“Our government took PSPD to automation”

“This is our government, which took PSDP to automation“, he added. “Chief Minister Balochistan had not taken these initiatives rather it was the cabinet that made decisions”, the former CM stated. He reiterated that his government made a number of decisions to facilitate the masses and government employees.

“Budgets are always made on estimations”, he said referring to this scribe’s question about the deficit in the budget. He said governments adopt a futuristic approach in terms of preparing a budget.
