Power show against Jam before no-confidence motion in Balochistan Assembly

QUETTA: Angry members from the ruling Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and lawmakers from the joint opposition gathered at the residence of speaker provincial assembly, Qudoos Bizenjo on Tuesday night.

A total of 37 legislators gathered at Mr. Bizenjo’s residence a day prior to the no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Balochistan, Jam Kamal Khan. 14-members from the ruling BAP, Balochistan National Party (Awami), and a member of the Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf (PTI) would present the no-confidence motion against the CM tomorrow (Wednesday).

“Jam Kamal should resign in a respectable way before the motion”, Zahoor Buledi, the acting president of one of the two factions of BAP told a crowded press conference.

33 votes required for election of leader of the house in BA

In Balochistan Assembly, only 33 votes are required for the election of the leader of the house. The number of lawmakers in the assembly is currently 65. The ruling BAP has emerged as the largest parliamentary group during the 2018 general elections.

The BAP angry members had submitted a no-confidence motion against CM Jam Kamal on October 12. Joint opposition including the Balochistan National Party (Mengal), Jamiat ul Ulema e Islam (F), Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) has also announced to support the motion.

“We support the BAP angry members against CM”, Malik Sikandar Advocate, the opposition leader in Balochistan Assembly said. Former CM Balochistan, Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali, Sardar Saleh Bhootani, and others were also present on the occasion.

“CM lost majority” asserts Buledi

“The CM has lost the majority in the house”, Zahoor Buledi asserted. He said the angry members had given time to the incumbent CM to leave the position in a respectable way and avoid humiliation.

When asked about the procedure of no-confidence motion, speaker Bizenjo stated that one of the angry members would present the motion tomorrow. He said, “I would call the session within three or seven days and ask the leader of the house to seek the vote of confidence”.

The assembly secretariat has made all necessary arrangements to hold the session. “We have allowed the media to cover the proceedings of the house”, Mr. Bizenjo said.

Strict security measures were also adopted by the administration to ensure peace on the eve of the Balochistan Assembly session.
