Prisoners survivors of Harnai earthquake shifted to tents

HARNAI: Over a dozen prisoners of the Harnai earthquake were shifted to tents from the police station. The mild earthquake, which struck through the impoverished district caused cracks in the walls of the police station.

“15 prisoners shifted to tents in Harnai”, a police official said. He requested anonymity. “We fear to collapse the police station during aftershocks”, he mentioned.

The earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale claimed 20 lives and injured over 200 people on October 7. The earthquake has left thousands of people homeless in Harnai and surrounding villages.

Earthquake jolts affected most of the government buildings

“Earthquake has affected most of the government buildings”, Sohail Anwar Hashmi, Deputy Commissioner Harnai said. He said relief operation was underway in the district to support the earthquake-affected people.

Pak Army is also involved in relief activities. Sector Commander North, Brigadier Irfan also visited earthquake-affected areas of the district and reviewed the pace of relief activities. Pak Army, Frontier Corps, and the civil administration distributed commodities among the earthquake survivors on Thursday.

Balochistan government taking a number of initiatives

The Balochistan government has also taken a number of initiatives to support the earthquake survivors in the Harnai district. “We will not leave the survivors alone in this hour of trial”, Chief Minister Balochistan, Jam Kamal Khan said.

The survivors are also feeling aftershocks of the earthquake since October 7. Panic prevails in the district as survivors have felt aftershocks of the earthquake. The earthquake has also caused cracks in schools located in various parts of the district.
