Ayub Bhutto :

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) staged a protest demonstration against water shortage in Balochistan’s Naseerabad district on Friday. PPP supporters and a large number of farmers blocked the main highway linking Balochistan with Sindh.

“Illegal pumping machines operating right under the nose of government”, Mir Sadiq Umrani, the PPP central leader said. Long queues of vehicles were witnessed as a result of the blockade of the highway.

“Rulers deprived masses of drinking water”, Umrani

” Rulers deprived masses of drinking water”, Mr. Umrani stated. The protesters were chanting full-throated slogans against the Irrigation Department. They blamed the department’s officials for providing water to their blue-eyed people in the area.

People suffered difficulties as a result of the protest in scorching heat. The protesters also burnt tires to vent their anger on the national highway. Since June this year, the government has not been providing water to farmers, Mr. Umrani claimed. “This has resulted in the destruction of standing crops in the area”, he added.
