Chaman: Trade activities resume between Pakistan and Afghanistan

After two weeks, trade activities resumed between Pakistan and Afghanistan on Monday morning. Dozens of trucks carrying goods entered from Pakistan into Afghanistan. Pakistan had closed its border with Afghanistan and suspended trade activities in the aftermath of the Taliban take over bordering areas.

Taliban have intensified attacks against the Afghan forces after the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan. The Afghan Taliban have also captured the strategically important dust-blowing town of Spin Boldak.

Border to remain open: DC Chaman

Deputy Commissioner Chaman, Captain (R) Jumadad Khan Mandokhail in a statement said that the border would remain open. The DC had however instructed the border officials to make sure implemetnation of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) regarding the COVID19.

President Chaman Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Jalat Khan Achakzai and others have wlecomed the opening of the border and restoraion of trade activities. Patients and traders remained the worst sufferers of closure of border during last two weeks.

Pakistan has also tightened security at the border after unfolding events in the neighboring country. Armed forces have replaced the para-military force in view of worsening the law and order situation in Afghanistan.

On Monday, thousands of people crossed the border. Women children, aged people, and patients were also among them. Patients from Afghanistan’s volatile Southern region also come to Quetta for medical treatment for a long time.
