SDGs implementation not possible without sensitizing masses: Speakers

Speakers at a consultative session on Friday underlined the need for sensitizing the masses for the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“With the inclusion of masses, SDGs cannot be implemented”, Pervez Khan Safi, a well-known development expert mentioned. He termed public participation indispensable for the implementation of the SDGs in the country.

Pakistan Development Alliance’s National Secretariate/ AwazCDS-Pakistan and PDA Provincial Lead Water Environment and Sanitation Society (WESS) has organized a consultation on Citizen’s & Provincial Government Priority Framework on SDGs.

Masses need to be sensitized

“The process of SDGs should be accelerated”, Zia ur Rehman, Pakistan Development Alliance/ Chief Executive AwazCDS-Pakistan said. He said all segments of society have to be sensitized to play their due role in this regard.

In this important consultation, AwazCDS-Pakistan has launched the SDGs Scorecard results to share the key findings in terms of Citizens Perception on the progress and priorities of the SDGs goals in Balochistan.

Balochistan is lagging behind other provinces in terms of key social indicators 

As compared to other provinces and regions of Balochistan is much behind on education and health therefore the citizens of Balochistan prioritized SDG 4 (quality education), SDG 3 (good health & wellbeing), and SDG1 (no poverty) as the top priority and demanded government to invest more on education, better health, and poverty alleviation

In the meanwhile, Balochistan SDGs priority framework was presented by Mr. Zahoor Tarran Monitoring & Evaluation Manager SDGs Unit Balochistan. He further informed that the SDGs framework has already been approved by the Planning and Development Department Government of Balochistan and the same is in the process of publishing. The participants appreciated the efforts of the SDGs unit for devising the SDGs Priority Framework and expressed hope that the Government of Balochistan would allocate resources to achieve the priority agenda.
