Nurses block road in Quetta against nonpayment of salaries

Health Desk :

Over 300 nurses staged a protest demonstration in Quetta against nonpayment of salaries and delay in extension of their contract orders. The protesting nursed blocked the Inscomb road as a protest against the government.

“We will continue our protest till solution of our problems”, Amina bibi, a protesting nurse said. She said the government had appointed 350 nurses on a contract basis last year. “Without any reason, the health department has stopped our salaries”, she lamented.

The protesting nurses chanted full-throated slogans against the health department for what they call its failure to address their issues.

The blockade of the road caused a suspension of traffic on Inscomb road. People faced difficulties as a result of protest nurses. Some staff members of the civil hospital also joined the protesting nurse to support their demands.

“Para-medical staff also support genuine demand of nurses”, Muhammad Akram, a protesting para-medic said.

The health department government of Balochistan had recruited 350 nurses to battle the COVID19 last year. The contract orders of the nurses expired and the government has not extended their contract order so far.

The enraged nurses ended their protest after successful negotiations with the district administration. Although, they had refused to end the protest earlier despite repeated requests by police and senior administrative officers.

Quetta Voice was unable to get the opinion of the health department about the issues despite repeated attempts.
