Balochistan cabinet increases MBBS seats from 195 to 350

The Balochistan cabinet has decided to increase MBBS seats from 195 to 350 to improve health services in the province. Zahoor Buledi, Balochistan’s finance minister took to social media network Twitter and announced the decision of the cabinet.

Chief Minister Balochistan, Jam Kamal Khan chaired the provincial cabinet meeting that made a number of decisions regarding various departments. Provincial ministers and other high ups participated in the cabinet.

Mr. Buledi said the government has also increased the BDS seats from 41 to 50 to overcome the shortage of doctors and improve health facilities in the province. An increase in the number of MBBS seats was a long standing demand of the students and academic staff of the Bolan university and college.

Seats would be divided among all 33 districts of Balochistan

Secretary health Balochistan, Noor ul Haq Baloch,  the Principal of the Bolan Medical College, Dr. Zahir Khan Mandokhail, had already briefed the provincial high ups about the lack of doctors. Seats would be divided among all 33 districts of Balochistan. Candidates who appeared in the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) test would be given admissions in Bolan Medical College and other medical colleges of the province.

BPSC launches tests for the appointment of doctors in Balochistan 

The Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC) also launched tests for the appointment of 1445 male and female doctors in Balochistan on Monday. The government had approved doctors’ posts to improve the health service and battle the COVID19.

Earlier, the Balochistan government had announced to recruit doctors on a contract basis to overcome the shortage of doctors in the province. However, the Young Doctors Association (YDA) had rejected the government’s decision and demanded permanent appointments through BPSC.

The cabinet also approved the Balochistan education sector plan for the year 2020-25.
