PDM resignations: BNP lawmaker Akhtar Langove submits resignation

The opposition lawmakers Sanaullah Baloch of the Balochistan National Party (Mengal) and Nasrullah Zarai of Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) submitted their resignations with the party chiefs on Thursday. They have submitted their resignations as a part of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) decision in this context.

Earlier, the BNP lawmaker, Akhtar Hussain Langove submitted his resignation with the party leadership on Wednesday evening. Mr. Langove has submitted the resignation in light of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) decision. The ruling party Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf (PTI) has hit back at the PDM and accused it of receiving foreign funds to ‘destabilize’ the country.

The anti-government alliance on Tuesday announced that all opposition lawmakers would submit their resignations with party chiefs by December 31st. “JUI F lawmakers will submit resignations”, the opposition leader in Balochistan Assembly, Malik Sikandar advocate said. He said all 10 lawmakers of the religious group would abide by the decision of the party’s high command.

“I have submitted my resignation with party chief Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal”, Mr. Langove told Quetta Voice. In the resignation letter addressed to the speaker of Balochistan Assembly, Mr. Langove said because of inflation and corruption he was tendering resignation.

The government lost its legitimacy, Mr. Langove said 

“This government has no legitimacy”, Mr.  Langove who is also the chairman of the public accounts committee said. “I tender resignation from PB-29 Quetta city”, he mentioned in his resignation letter.

Lawmakers from BNP Mengal, Jamiat ul Ulema e Islam (JUI), Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) were also preparing to submit their resignations with party chiefs.

The anti-government alliance has started submitting resignations with party chiefs to mount pressure on the government. However, Prime Minister Imran Khan has categorically stated that by-polls would be conducted on seats of opposition members. 

The ruling PTI has hit back hard and accused the opposition of receiving foreign funding to destabilize the country.
