Customs foil smuggling bid of expensive birds at Gwadar

Pakistan Customs foiled a smuggling bid of expensive birds at the port city of Gwadar. Customs seized three expensive falcons at Jewni sea route on Friday, Customs sources said. The smugglers were trying to smuggle the expensive falcons to Iran when intercepted by customs personnel.

Customs officials handed over expensive birds to the Deputy Conservator Forest and Wildlife Gwadar, Yar Muhammad Dashti. Later on, the forest and customs officials freed the three expensive falcons at the coastal belt. It was not immediately confirmed that an arrest made during the action or not.

Customs personnel has seized expensive birds a few days after the Balochistan Forest and Wildlife department seized two expensive falcons from a passenger at Quetta international airport.

Balochistan houses various kinds of expensive and rare birds especially falcons and houbara bustard. The Arab royal families have been visiting Jhal Magsi, Dalbandin, and other parts of Balochistan for the hunting of houbara bustard for the last few years. However, the provincial government has tightened vigilance at all airports, sea and land routes to stop the smuggling of expensive birds to foreign countries.
