Opposition Quetta Protest to affect development process: Shahwani

The Spokesman government of Balochistan, Liaquat Shahwani on Thursday said the opposition’s Quetta protest will only affect the development process. Addressing a press conference, Mr. Shahwani said the two political parties hosting the Quetta protest have no representation in the provincial assembly.

“We believe in democracy and not frightened of any protest”, Mr. Shahwani said. The people ask this question that why major political parties cannot hold public meetings in their own provinces, he pointed out.

The mainstream opposition political parties have announced to hold a protest meeting in Quetta on October 11 against the government. This will be the first anti-government protest by the opposition.

Mr. Shahwani said masses of Balochistan have rejected the opposition parties in the elections that’s why they are coming here to hold a protest rally. He claimed that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) cannot hold a public meeting in Sindh, where the party has been ruling for years.

Balochistan government has taken steps to contain COVI19

The Spokesman said the health department has conducted over 1,00,000 tests of the COVID19 during the last seven months. He said the testing capacity improved to reach out to the maximum number of patients in the province.

Mr. Shahwani said the Corona Cell has confirmed 541 cases of the novel coronavirus from all educational institutions in Balochistan. Since September 15, the health department has been conducting tests in universities, colleges and schools, he mentioned.

Balochistan development projects

Mr. Shahwani said the Prime Minister, Imran Khan has taken a keen interest in the development of Balochistan to bring it at par with other parts of the country. He said the present government was launching development projects in Southern Balochistan to remove the sense of deprivation of the people. He said the development of Balochistan is the priority of the present government. Frightened of development, the opposition is going to hold protest in Quetta on October 11th, he asserted.
