Balochistan educational institutions confirm 173 cases of COVID19

QUETTA: Educational institutions in Balochistan have confirmed 173 of COVID19 during the last five days. So far 1461 tests of coronavirus conducted in educational institutions in the province, the Corona Cell said in a statement. The administration has closed over a dozen schools and two universities in Quetta after reports of coronavirus cases. The Balochistan University of Information Technology and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) also closed after reports of COVID19. The university would remain closed till September 25, a notification issued by the university said on Sunday.

“Any educational institution that reported more than two cases would be closed”, Liaquat Shahwani, the Spokesman government of Balochistan said. Educational institutions opened on September 15 in Balochistan like in other parts of the country in the light of the decision of the federal government. The Corona Cell Balochistan reported 106 cases of COVID19 on September 19 from various schools.

Committees formed to implement SOPs 

The provincial government has formed three-member committees on district level to ensure implementation of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in schools. However, teachers and students continue to complain about the lack of masks and sanitizers in various parts of the province. “Despite repeated requests, the administration has not provided masks and sanitizers”, Rasheed Baloch, a teacher in Balochistan’s district Kech complained.

Balochistan reports 14,269 cases of COVID19

The number of cases rises to 14,269 in Balochistan as the corona cell confirmed 131 fresh cases on Saturday. COVID19 cases increased recently in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan, the Corona Cell stated in a statement. The virus has caused 145 deaths in Balochistan since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Sardar Bahadur Khan (SBK) Women University and Balochistan University have been closed after their staff members and students contracted the deadly virus. The universities closed till further orders, registrars of the universities in their separate notifications.

Balochistan health department has conducted over 86,000 tests of coronavirus in Quetta and other districts of the province. “We want to expand and improve the testing capacity”, Liaquat Shahwani said.
