A local court in Quetta on Friday acquitted Majeed Khan Achakzai, a former member of the Balochistan Assembly in the traffic Sergeant murder case. Model court judge, Dost Muhammad Mandokhail acquitted the former member provincial assembly in the traffic Sergeant murder case owing to lack of evidence.
He appeared before the court on Friday when the verdict was announced.
Majeed Achakzai acquitted in Sergeant Murder Case
In June 2017, traffic Sergeant, Haji Attaullah was killed in a traffic accident at GPO Chowk Quetta. The footage of the accident went viral on social media, sparking heated debate. The harrowing footage of the traffic accident was widely shared on social media.
FIR was lodged against Achakzai in the Civil Line Police Station. Then, Police arrested Majeed Khan Achakzai in the murder of traffic Sergeant, Attaullah. Police accused him of hitting the traffic sergeant deployed at main GPO Chowk during the sacred month of Ramazan. Police had also filed a vehicle-tampering case against the former MPA. He was also acquitted in the vehicle-tampering case by a local court.
The case was transferred to anti-terrorism court and terrorism sections were included in the first information report (FIR). Achakzai appealed against terror charges in the FIR and subsequently, the court removed terror charges and transferred the case to Model Court. Achakzai was released on bail by the Anti-Terrorist Court in December 2017 in the case.
Mr. Achakzai was also serving as the Chairman Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in Balochistan Assembly. He belongs to Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP). During the 2013 general elections, he was elected as an MPA on the ticket of PKMAP.
