Asim Bajwa resigns as SAPM on Information

Prime Minister, Imran Khan on Friday refused to accept the resignation of his special assistant on information and broadcasting, Lieutenant General (R) Asim Saleem Bajwa. Senator Javed Faisal through a tweet has also confirmed that the PM has refused to accept his resignation. “The PM was satisfied with the clarification of Asim Bajwa”, the national media reported on Friday evening.

Lieutenant General (R) Asim Saleem Bajwa has resigned as a special assistant to the prime minister on information on Thursday. Speaking to ARY’s senior anchor Arshad Sharif, Mr. Bajwa announced his resignation as SAPM on the information.

He, however, would serve as chairman of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). “I will present my resignation to the Prime Minister on Friday morning”, he said. He made this announcement after four pages rebuttal to recently published news story in a little known web-site about his properties.

Responding to a question, he informed that he had decided to quit as the SAPM on information after consultation with his family. “I decided to put all my energies into CPEC because we thought that a lot of focus is currently needed on the CPEC Authority,” he said.

The premier’s aide said the government’s information wing “has many other qualified people”, therefore, he will keep his focus on CPEC. He said an excellent team was taking shape regarding CPEC and the entire cabinet was focused on the multi-billion dollar project.
