Quetta and some other districts of Balochistan have seen a sharp rise in the number of deaths recently. Chief Minister Balochistan, Jam Kamal Khan directed the concerned commissioners and deputy commissioners to compile monthly data of those who died during the novel coronavirus outbreak in the province.

In January, Balochistan confirmed 220, February 229, March 261, April 315 deaths caused by different diseases across the province, Liaquat Shahwani, the Spokesman government of Balochistan told the daily Quetta Voice. Most of the people had died of heart attacks, kidney and lung failures, one of the deputy commissioners who declined told the daily Quetta Voice.

Mr. Shahwani, however, revealed that all deputy commissioners reported 667 deaths during the month of May and 327 from June 1st to June 10th. The reasons behind all deaths are yet to be ascertained. The government has also directed the concerned deputy commissioners to ascertain the reasons behind the increasing deaths in their respective districts.

Most of the deaths have been reported from Quetta, Pishin and Killa Abdullah districts of Balochistan. However, people do not accept the coronavirus and consider it as a social stigma.

“Besides coronavirus, we are also faced with increasing cases of malaria and typhoid as well”, Mr. Shahwani said.

As per the statistics shared by the Corona Cell, the health department has confirmed 93 deaths caused by the deadly virus so far. However, independent sources put the number much higher than what is being quoted by the officials.
