QUETTA: The Balochistan government on Tuesday decided to recruit 58 Naib Tehsildars through Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC). This decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Balochistan, Jam Kamal Khan.

The vacancies of Naib Tehsildards were lying vacant for a long time, however, merit could not be ensured through departmental recruitment, an officer based in chief minister’s secretariat who declined to be named told daily Qeutta Voice.

The posts would be divided by the BPSC on a divisional basis for recruitment. However, a few posts would be kept for open merit so that competent candidates could compete.

Very soon, the posts would be sent to BPSC for advertising in local newspapers for recruitment, the officer mentioned.

Gross violations of merit were reported during the appointment of Naib Tehsildars in the past. Specific rates were being fixed to grease the palm of concerned quarters to get the post.

However, this is for the first time that the government has empowered the BPSC to recruit the Naib Tehsildars in Balochistan. Naib Tehsildar heads a levies station in rural Balochistan and looks after land settlement issues. The post is considered to be administratively crucial in the province.
