QUETTA: The Balochistan government has extended the lockdown till May 19th in an attempt to halt the spread of novel coronavirus in the province. The lockdown has been extended for the third time to contain the pandemic in the province, Liaquat Shahwani, the Spokesman government of Balochistan said in a statement obtained by daily Quetta Voice.

The major reason behind extension in the lockdown is to halt the spread of the virus, Mr. Shahwani said. The second lockdown was scheduled to be expired on May 5th, therefore, the government extended it for the third time, he said.

Despite the lockdown order in the city, still, roads and streets are packed with people and vehicles. Very few people follow the official instructions, whereas majority of the people continue to violate the lockdown order.

The administration sealed the main commodities and shopping mall on airport road Quetta after a crowd of people had gathered to do shopping. Crowds and long queues of people were witnessed outside banks during the day despite the lockdown order.
