QUETTA: The Balochistan government has demanded of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to provide 142 ventilators to the province so that it could cope with the situation developed in the aftermath of the Covid-19 outbreak. The government has only around a dozen ventilators at Fatima Jinnah Chest and TB Hosptial Quetta.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Spokesman government of Balochistan, Liaquat Shahwani said that the federal government has also been approached about the lack of testing kits in the province. These demands on the part of the government have come after repeated complaints about delayed tests and lack of ventilators by masses.

“We have requested the federal government to provide 50,000 testing kits”, Mr. Shahwani said. Balochistan has been facing a lack of testing kits and therefore, people continue to complain about delayed tests and results at Fatima Jinnah Chest and TB Hospital Laboratory.

Regarding the cases, Mr. Shahwani informed that 160 cases were confirmed on Tuesday with new, old, and random cases. “Increasing locally transmitted cases, is our major concern”, the Spokesman said.

He however announced that from tomorrow daily 400 tests would be conducted at Bolan Medical Complex Hospital Quetta. For this purpose, all arrangements were being made to support the patients and their attendants.
