880 cases of Coronavirus locally transmitted in Balochistan
Most of the cases reported from Quetta, capital of Balochistan province
The coronavirus continues to spread fast locally in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan. Hitherto, 880 cases have been locally transmitted in the province, Liaquat Shahwani, the Spokesman Government of Balochistan told Daily Quetta Voice.
Most of the cases have been reported from Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province. Cases reported from almost all parts of Quetta city, Mr. Shahwani said. However, Pishin stands second in terms of cases of the novel coronavirus. Around 50 cases have been confirmed in Balochistan’s Pishin district, Waseem Baig, the Spokesman Corona Cell Balochistan tells Daily Quetta Voice.
However, local and independent sources put the number much higher than what is being reported by the government. Since Pishin has more communication links with Quetta, therefore, the cases continue to rise there, Dr. Yasir Khosti, one of the doctors battling the coronavirus in Fatima Jinnah Chest and TB Hospital told Daily Quetta Voice.
Cases are under-reported since most of the people in rural Balochistan do not recognize coronavirus as a disease, Mr. Khosti elaborated.
The Balochistan government has decided to enhance its capacity in terms of testing suspected patients of coronavirus in the province to make sure the provision of better health facilities.
The government has planned to conduct 50,000 tests in the province, Mr. Shahwani mentioned.
