Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed sadness over the clash between doctors and police in Quetta during a cabinet meeting.

The premier said that doctors should be encouraged if they are performing their duties selflessly.

Police in Quetta arrested dozens of doctors protesting for personal protective equipment on Monday. The government ordered the release of doctors. However, the doctors have yet to come out of police stations as a protest against police crackdown and baton charge.

Earlier, the cabinet has decided to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) kits directly to the administration of hospitals instead of handing them over to provincial governments.

The decision was taken so that critics would not accuse the government of not providing equipment.
