MASTUNG: The district administration launched a crackdown against drug smugglers and peddlers in Balochistan’s Mastung city on Thursday morning. During the operation, levies arrested three drug peddlers from Paringabad area of Mastung district.
Levies sources said scores of drug addicts, especially heroin addicts were taken into custody during the operation. Levies also demolished safe havens of drug peddlers and smugglers during the operation.
The operation was launched on the directives of deputy commissioner Mastung, Mehboob Ahmed. The administration launched the operation against drug peddlers few days after the long march launched by youngsters from Khuzdar to Quetta against increasing number of heroin addicts and spread of narcotics in various parts of Balochistan.
The drug smugglers also martyred a young student of Balochistan University Samiullah Mengal in Noshki a week ago. Police said Sami Mengal had complained about the spread of narcotics to high ups and in retaliation, he was martyred by drug peddlers in Noshki.
In Balochistan, the number of heroin addicts has increased to a dangerous extent. In presence of anti narcotics agencies, drugs were available in various parts of Quetta and other parts of the province. “There are shops of drugs everywhere in Balochistan”, Sanaullah Baloch of Balochistan National Party (Mengal) said. He lamented that government was a silent spectator in this regard and no action was being taken against the elements playing with the lives of innocent youth.
